BayCity and IPSTAR partner to
increase efficiency of New Zealand’s farming
industry
BayCity Technologies teamed up with IPSTAR to
provide state-of-the-art remote tools for New
Zealand’s rural communities via the IPSTAR
satellite. Among the solutions developed by BayCity
is a remote management tool for farmers, including
the ability to manage milk storage on dairy farms.
At the heart of BayCity’s innovation, the M3
(Measure, Monitor, Manage) platform provides the
structure to enable integrated, scaleable, remote
data management solutions. Hardware incorporating M3
connects to BayCity’s hosted environment, providing
global, secure, real-time access to critical data.
“Farming is big business, yet until recently did not
have the communications technologies to allow it to
take advantage of modern production information
technology. IPSTAR enables us to implement our M3
services on remote farms to provide critical
information to farmers and their business partners
in a real-time view”, says Andrew Plimmer, CEO,
BayCity Technologies Inc.

Australia’s URSYS uses IPSTAR
service for oil rig communications
In conjunction with specialist contractors and
Marine Navaid Systems, the SeaTel distributor based
out of Sydney, URSYS won the contract to supply and
install a 1.2M SeaTel stabilized VSAT platform onto
an oil exploration rig currently exploring for oil
and gas off the east coast of New Zealand. URSYS
chose to use a space segment provided by IPSTAR to
directly link the IPSTAR Auckland teleport to the
rig and the oil exploration company’s production
office on the mainland.
IPSTAR enables URSYS to provide four extension phone
lines back to the client’s head office PBX and
facilitates high speed Internet data access for
management personnel on the rig.
“The spot beam coverage from IPSTAR is excellent,
allowing us to maintain 24×7 VoIP telephony support
and unlimited Internet data service to floating oil
platforms up to 250 kilometers off shore,” said
Grahame Cover, CEO, URSYS Pty. Ltd.
